Why This Matters for Opioid Prevention
Research consistently links ACEs, such as household substance use, violence, or instability, to a higher risk of substance use later in life. Positive experiences, including supportive adult relationships, safe schools, and a sense of belonging, help protect against that risk. Understanding both sides of the picture helps communities focus prevention where it will make the biggest difference.
This work aligns closely with Nevada’s Opioid Needs Assessment and Statewide Plan, which guides how the state invests opioid settlement dollars through the Fund for a Resilient Nevada. Preventing ACEs and strengthening family-based prevention, especially for youth, are among the priorities identified in the statewide effort to reduce opioid misuse and overdose.
At the Nevada Opioid Center of Excellence (NOCE), we support providers, prevention professionals, and community partners with training and resources grounded in Nevada data. Our past offerings include an ACEs prevention webinar and the Resiliency-Informed Substance Use Prevention Learning Series. Local data like these reports help ensure our education reflects what Nevada’s young people are actually facing, and points toward the upstream strategies that can prevent substance use before it starts.
