About Screening, Prevention and Intervention

The Screening, Prevention and Intervention (SPI) project is a training and technical assistance (TA) initiative to support Nevada organizations or jurisdictions to expand and improve capacity for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)/MOUD prevention, treatment, recovery and harm reduction services. Screening, prevention, and intervention are key components of public health strategies aiming to improve and protect health. Screening identifies individuals or groups at risk of health problems and substance use, while prevention focuses on reducing the risk of developing those problems, and intervention provides actions to address existing health and/or substance use issues.

The SPI training and implementation project holds the potential to improve and strengthen Nevada’s public health system by assisting community healthcare workers, criminal justice professionals and adolescent service providers to provide opportunities for screening, prevention and early intervention with at-risk substance users before more severe consequences occur. The SPI project includes no cost to participant in-person and online training, technical assistance to support SPI resources, outreach, and increased opportunities for Nevadans to seek help with OUDs.
