This full-day, interactive training helps peer workers, supervisors, and program leaders navigate the ethical questions that come with holding a professional role and a lived experience at the same time. Participants build a shared language for values, morals, ethics, and boundaries, then apply a four-step decision-making process to eight real scenarios from the field. Offers 6 NAADAC CE credits.
What You’ll Learn
- Distinguish values, morals, ethics, and laws, and how each shapes peer practice
- Identify your own core values and where they align or conflict with your organization
- Apply confidentiality regulations, including 42 CFR Part 2
- Recognize rigid, porous, and healthy boundaries, and the warning signs of boundary drift
- Work through role clarity, dual relationships, and emotional, sexual, and financial exploitation
- Apply a four-step ethical decision-making process to real situations
What You’ll Take Away
Two working tools you keep: the Boundary Management Worksheet for sorting common interactions along a vulnerability continuum, and the Ethical Decision-Making Worksheet for identifying harm, values, standards, and what to document. Participants also leave with a written set of personal core values and a curated resource list covering 42 CFR Part 2, SAMHSA core competencies, and INAPS national guidelines.
