About the Nevada Opioid Center of Excellence (NOCE)
The Nevada Opioid Center of Excellence (NOCE) is dedicated to developing and sharing evidence-informed training and offering technical assistance to professionals and community members alike. Whether you are a care provider or a concerned community member, NOCE provides resources to support those affected by opioid use in Nevada.
Goals
- NOCE will support local communities, organizations and jurisdictions promote capacity for opioid use disorder and medication for opioid use disorder (OUD)/(MOUD) prevention, treatment, recovery and harm reduction services.
- Promote sustainability through the facilitation and identification of evidence-based or research informed model programs, develop and update training materials related to prevention, harm reduction, treatment and recovery activities for opioid use disorder and medication for opioid use disorder (OUD)/(MOUD) to ensure high-quality training is accessible to Nevada partner organizations and communities.
Objectives
- Technical assistance and training will be provided for Nevada communities in the dissemination, implementation, and ongoing fidelity to proven models, evidence-based practices, research-informed or promising practices focused on objectives identified in community assessments and to ensure programs recommended that are designed and implemented are effective and maintain fidelity.
- Identify local capacity to implement programs, provide remediation and technical assistance to address gaps between current capabilities and implementation. Implementation science will inform training, and development of learning activities to ensure sustainability.
Funding Source/Attribution
The Nevada Opioid Center of Excellence (NOCE) is administered by the Center for the Applications of Substance Abuse Technologies, a grant-funded center located within the School of Public Health at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Funding for this project was made possible in whole or in part by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Director’s Office through the Fund for a Resilient Nevada, established in Nevada Revised Statutes 433.712 through 433.744.
The Fund for a Resilient Nevada was established in Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 433.712 through 433.744 and is specific to the state’s portion of opioid litigation recoveries. It is administered by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Director’s Office, as identified in NRS 433.732. Any activities performed under this subaward shall acknowledge the funding was provided through the Department by Fund for a Resilient Nevada, established in Nevada Revised Statutes 433.712 through 433.744.

Project ECHO (PENDING)
The Nevada Opioid Center of Excellence (NOCE) at the University of Nevada is in the process of becoming an official Project ECHO partner.
Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes), developed by Sanjeev Arora, M.D. , at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, is a collaborative model of medical education and care management that helps clinicians provide expert-level care to patients wherever they live. Using video-conferencing technology to train, advise, and support primary care providers, Project ECHO increases access to specialty treatment in rural and underserved areas for a variety of conditions.
