2026 National HIDTA Prevention Summit: The Architecture of Primary Prevention from Childhood through Young Adulthood

On October 27, HIDTA invites prevention professionals from across the country to join a full day dedicated to sharing science, strategies, and tools to prevent substance use before it starts, from childhood through young adulthood.

This year’s dynamic lineup of national and local leaders and subject matter experts will bring their expertise, experience, and ideas to sharing the unique ways we can all contribute to creating and supporting The Architecture of Primary Prevention.

The purpose of this year’s HIDTA Prevention Summit is to equip communities with primary prevention strategies and tools to prevent substance use before it starts, from childhood through age 25, by understanding the developing brain, strengthening protective factors, and reinforcing a drug-free lifestyle at home, in school, in the community, on campus, at work, and online.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the summit, participants will be able to:

  • Examine how community, state, and federal partners build and sustain primary prevention grounded in the best available evidence from childhood through age 25.
  • Explain how the developing brain and age-specific skills shape primary prevention outcomes from childhood through young adulthood.
  • Describe the fundamental role relationships play across all primary prevention strategies.
  • Identify the numerous ways coalitions advance primary prevention activities in communities.
  • Determine how data and artificial intelligence can be used effectively as tools to support primary prevention planning, implementation, and evaluation.
