Overdose Deaths and Extreme Heat

This is a free Zoom presentation (one hour) about drug overdose deaths that involve environmental heat in Arizona. This presentation is open to any interested community member, and 1 social work CEU is available for attendees.

The presentation will discuss increases in heat-related overdose deaths in Arizona over the period of 2018-2023 and examine how often homelessness and methamphetamine use are reported in these deaths. The presentation will also integrate results from interviews with people who use drugs in Arizona regarding their experiences with heat and overdose risk.

This presentation will be given by Professor Raminta Daniulaityte from the Arizona State University (ASU) College of Health Solutions and Associate Professor Manuel Cano from the ASU School of Social Work.
