Understanding the Dangers of Opioid Use in Older Adults and Beyond

Free Web-Based Training

According to the National Institute of Health, rates of problematic opioid use are increasing in the older adult population. Problematic opioid use rates will continue to rise over the next decade because of increased number of comorbid conditions conferring greater and specific risks and treatment considerations. Although problematic opioid use is a common occurrence, it is also overlooked and undertreated.

Comagine Health is working to do its part in combatting the epidemic by welcoming Dr. Melissa Cheng, clinical medical director at Comagine Health and subject matter expert, to present this learning session that will shed light on:

  • Demographics of older adults in the U.S.
  • Opioid use and the risks involved
  • How to identify an opioid use disorder
  • Treatment and barriers to care
  • Screening for opioid use disorder with the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Tool
