SUMMARY:Wound Care for Opioid Affected Communities
DESCRIPTION:People who inject and use drugs (PWID/PWUD) are at increased risk for skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI’s) and chronic wounds. This training will provide an overview of the different types of wounds and infections encountered with PWUD as well as low barrier treatment options. \nLearning Objectives\nBy the end of this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify the types of wounds and infections encountered in PWUD.\nUnderstand basic wound assessment and treatment options.\nDevelop a harm reduction approach to wound care in PWUD.\nReduce wound stigma in individuals with substance use disorders.\n\nPresented by: Michael Huyck DNP\, FNP\, CARN-AP \nMichael Huyck is a Family and Addiction Nurse Practitioner with the University of Illinois at Chicago Community Outreach Intervention Projects where he focuses on integrating substance use disorder treatment and primary care in settings such as syringe exchanges\, mobile\, and street health programs. His clinical interests include piloting evidenced based interventions to address problems specific to populations with substance use disorders including wound care\, ultrasound-guided phlebotomy\, and low barrier access to medications for the treatment of Opioid Use Disorder. \nContinuing Education Units: 1.5 CEUs \nThis training is approved for continuing education by the boards listed here. \nFunding for this activity was made possible in whole or in part by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Director’s Office through the Fund for a Resilient Nevada\, established in Nevada Revised Statutes 433.712 through 433.744. SUMMARY:JTNN Overdose Awareness Day Event
DESCRIPTION:Join Together Northern Nevada (JTNN) invites the community to a free event in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day 2026\, carrying the theme “25 Years On. Still Needed.” \nThe event features keynote speaker Daniel Fred\, Director of Nevada’s Recovery and Prevention (NRAP) at the University of Nevada\, Reno\, a person in long-term recovery\, author\, and recovery advocate\, along with additional speakers from CrossRoads who will share stories of overcoming substance use challenges\, healing\, and finding hope. \nThe Reno-Sparks Indian Colony will lead “Grounding Together: Building Skills for Wellness\,” an interactive session on grounding techniques for managing stress and supporting emotional well-being\, and a digital photo collage will honor those lost to overdose\, with photo submissions welcome by the deadline. \nQuest Counseling will offer grief support in a compassionate space to reflect and heal\, and lunch will be provided by The Life Change Center. \nTo learn more\, scan the QR code on the flyer or visit https://overdoseawareness.carrd.co/.
